3 Key Traits of a Leader
from Managing America.com 8/13 enhanced by Peter/CXO Wiz4biz
True leadership’s foundation is credibility. Being a leader requires you to be authentic. There are just some people who exude confidence & charisma, and people are drawn to them. They seem to inspire trust easily & naturally. Those are the people we think we should emulate in order to be seen as leaders. Sometimes we even label them as “natural born” leaders.
Natural-Born Leader ??? There is no such thing as a natural born leader. Anyone can be a leader and, in fact, most people already are leaders in some part of their lives. This has nothing to do with a job title – it’s about behaviors exhibited, not titles bestowed.
· Leading is learned & earned. Leadership is made up of behaviors that are learned and practiced, and these are behaviors that anyone – even everyone – can acquire.
· Leadership credibility is a necessity, then, is also based on these behaviors. What makes people gravitate to someone they see as a leader? I can think of three things, each built on a foundation of credibility. If you wish to be recognized as a leader, these are the three behaviors you should focus on exhibiting routinely.
Three (3) Leadership Behaviors that attract Followers.
1. Leaders Inspire Hope
In 1980 when Reagan was elected, he won because he instilled hope in Americans at a time when things looked really bad (ie, American Hostages in Iran, super high Inflation). He knew the power of giving people something positive to believe in and look toward. Inspiring hope means telling the truth, not sugar-coating reality. But within that truth, leaders find the positives and offer encouragement and ideas so others can see a brighter tomorrow.
