Creating a Strategic Plan #2
Compiled by Peter/CXO Wiz4biz 7/13
5b. Mission. Why do we exist? What business are we in? What product or service can we provide? Who are our Customers? What are their needs? How do we reduce their pain (anxiety, cost, failures, etc)? How can we increase their satisfaction (happiness, safety, success, etc)?
5c. Vision. Where does our organization want to go in 3-5 years? How many Customers? How much Sales? How does it want to be perceived? How big do we want to get? How many locations?
5d. Marketing. What advantage do we uniquely offer? Have we talked to Customers to find out what they think of our product or service? What they need? Would they be willing to pay for it? Has a Customer used our product or service? What was their Feedback? How do we reach our Customers with our message? What is our Budget? How can we use “free” & low $$ means to get the word out?
6. Review proposed Objectives. Be open to changes that will make them better. If you’re very small or just starting, select the Objective with the most immediate & strongest impact to your organizations success, because you probably done have the resources to work on too many.
7. Do a “Force-Field Analysis”. Set a tentative priority on the top objectives. Now do a FF Analysis for each. What “force”, “factors” are working for or against them? Which Factors can you improve and which can you reduce or eliminate? What are the consequences of each objective? Put a weight on each Objective according to it’s importance or urgency. You may need to re-order your priority of Objectives. You should review the FF Analysis at least Quarterly – more often if needed.
8. Creating the Action Plan. From your “priorities” of the previous analysis, determine the Steps needed to obtain the objectives. Can you combine some of them? Can you do some at the same time? What resources do you need? Set a date for the completion of each significant Step. Have Milestones to measure progress.
9. Review Meetings will check the progress of tasks. (usually weekly at the beginning and maybe longer when things are flowing more smoothly) Change focus to get back on track, modify tasks to meet new condition – even completely changing the Task if you want to significantly change the Objectives.
10. Celebrate the Accomplishment of significant Tasks and a big one when you complete the Objective.
11. Review the Project to determine what the Team did well and what they need improvement on.
