Review of Steve “Jobs” Movie

Synopsis. Jobs is a 2013 American biographical drama film based on the life of Steve Jobs, from 1971 to 2000. We follow Steve Jobs (played by Ashton Kircher) from the enthusiasm & self-discovery of his youth, through his darkest days, brightest triumphs, & the ultimate power of his drive, his passions (his undying will to change everything he thought possible). Dark, honest, & un-compromising, “Jobs” plunges into the depths of Steve Jobs’ character, uncovering his driving motivations, his gifts, his flaws, his failures, & his ultimate successes.

Jobs Movie Review: I watched this with little knowledge about Steve Jobs’ back-story. I’ve never read any of the bio’s, I haven’t watched “Pirates of Silicon Valley” – the widely acclaimed, so-called better adaptation of Steve Jobs. To be truthful, for a non business person, I find this film pretty good. At least, it is good enough to get me researching more about Jobs and even, , start reading his biography. Perhaps I have watched this movie with no expectation, purely based on the interest or you can say “curiosity” of the man who help create the countless products I’m using, I find this film pretty darn good. Yet, the film ended in a way that left me saying, “What? That’s All? Is there going to be a Part 2?”

The Film focus is on the change in Apple over the years – and of course – the change in Jobs: the way he handle the situations, the way he sold ideas & inspirations and how he was ousted from the very company he founded. The first opening scene really shocked me, as I almost thought it was Jobs himself doing the speech. It is definitely a “worthwhile” movie which reflects the struggle of a visionary leader & a team of geniuses who went all out to create the things that changed and improved our lives forever.

The Attract of Mac. A surprise find for me is perhaps, realising that the computer that drove me crazy back in the late 1990s as a Primary School kid was a Macintosh. During recess time, I would dash down the canteen to grab a slot for myself in front of the Macintosh before getting my lunch. Over the years, I have forgotten what brand was the computer – that brought me joy back then, and watching the movie really brought me back to the 1990s. It’s pretty amazing (for me, at least) to find out how so many of my childhood memories are brought to life by Jobs, including pinball games.

Bringing Steve Jobs to life. To become Jobs, Ashton dedicated three months. He watched documentaries & interviews, scoured YouTube & even thumbed through Soundcloud to find audio clips. Kutcher used this Inter-netting to set the “broad themes of his persona”. He mimicked what Jobs did. He invested himself into books Jobs read and ate grapes & drank carrot juice, because that’s what Steve did. Because that’s what Ashton did to get into the character of Jobs.
