The 5 Levels Of Influence
from Mike Stratman, Leadership Teacher 07 June 15 edited by Peter/Organizer, Entrepreneur Meetups
Progressive Leadership is about the increasing ability of a leader to expand his or her influence. Hopefully, as a leader grows in ability, the leader’s influence grows as well, but this is not an automatic process. If a leader is to maximize his potential and his influence, the process must be deliberate. Expanding the influence of a leader is accomplished by growing the leader himself.
The Five Levels of Influence are a convenient way to plan the journey of a leader from beginning to crowning achievement. The leader grows in stature and ability to influence, by ascending these steps. Each level presents more influence and takes greater advantage of the abilities of the leader – by amplifying those abilities across a broader spectrum.
Progressive Process. So the Five Levels of Influence represent a progressive process – where a leader picks up new abilities while accumulating and expanding his or her influence. Leadership is an art (requiring thinking) and a science (requiring action). For each of the Five Levels of Influence, There are pre-suppositions, or mind-sets, that are required for a leader to perform at that Level. Understanding the thinking behind the actions always results in more effective actions.
Level 1: Learning – education on the principles of learning
Level 2: Performing – putting these principles into action
Level 3: Leading – focusing on inspiring leadership vs managing
Level 4: Developing Leaders from your followers
