Top 10 + a Bonus !!!
from Managing for Dummies 10/13 enhanced by Peter/CXO Wiz4biz
The Survey. A Management Consulting company Interviewed 1500 Employees in 7 Industries and came up with the following results of what they thought was the most important.
#1. Learning Opportunity – to gain skills to increase their contribution to the organization & grow as a person.
#2. Flexible Work Hours – to meet their “personal” needs for family, friends, charity, education, church and/or hobbies. They’ll be motivated to work harder, because you “respected” their needs.
-
APPRECIATION !!!
#3. Personal Praise, #8. Public Praise, #10 Written Praise
Thanking them for a good job goes a long way toward showing your “appreciation, so that they can feel the pride of a job well-done (& appreciated). They will continue this good work and even strive to improve.
#4. Increased Authority & #5. Increased Autonomy – is the ultimate form for recognition – which will “motivate” them to even higher achievements. When they can allocate & assign Resources, make Decisions + Manage others, they will respond to this appreciation, by striving to do an even better job with what they’ve been given.
#6. Time with their Manager – is a “recognition” of their importance. Managers can ask them about their concerns, ideas, then offer advice or resolution. Managers can share their own Issues with them and ask for their advice. Personal time is validation & inspiration.
#7. Time off from Work (see #2 Flexible Hours)
#8. Public Praise (see Appreciation #3)
#9. Choice of Assignments – so they can pick the best position & conditions that fit their needs. Then they will perform the best – which will benefit the organization.
#10 Written Praise (see Appreciation #3)
#13 Money – is the compensation (pun), when Employees are not getting their other needs met – altho’ definitely not as good a motivator as the others.
Giving Employees what they want. As a Manager/Owner, you now know what Employees want. Look for opportunities to give it to them. Ask them what they want. Review their performance (ie, Quarterly). Recognize & Reward those making the greatest contribution. This will increase their motivation and increase the productivity of the organization.
